Reading this may affect your rights
If it's not right, it must be wrong.
Right?
"We have a right to a decent wage" complains the union activist. "We have a right to a full week's work from our employees" complains the besuited boss."I have a right to a pension, unvouched expenses, a state car and fringe benefits", declares the cunning politician. In tough times, our natural instinct is to become defensive and to focus on what we should be getting and not on what we should be giving. This is human nature.
We hear a lot about rights and I hear little of responsibility. This is wrong. Completely wrong. What we should be hearing is "We have a responsibility to deliver real value to our employer and our customers" announces the union activist. "We have a responsibility to motivate, train and inspire our employees." asserts the inspiring boss. "I have a moral responsibility to every man, woman and child in my constituency and in the State" enthuses the statesman.
In tough times, the ones who focus on their responsibility and not on their rights are the ones who inspire. There are the ones who make a difference and are the ones who will lead others to do more, to be more productive, to contribute more and to have better lives.
This is right whether you are on the right or on the left. Each of us has an ability to respond in the right way to the situations that confront us. Look on this as our responsibility.
Right?
